Assignment
Part A: Company energy demand
1. Determine the total annual energy demand
- Obtain the total annual energy demand of your training company (in kWh).
- If this is not accessible: estimate it on the basis of the partial information available.
- Are there any strong seasonal fluctuations over the course of the year?
- Document your data sources.
2. Identify the three largest loads
Record the following for each of the three loads:
- Name/designation of the device/installation
- Photo of the rating plate with the electrical characteristics
- Location in the company
- Estimated operating times (h/day, days/year)
- Calculation of the annual energy consumption (kWh/year)
- Percentage share of the total consumption
Part B: Detailed analysis – fact sheet
Choose one of the 3 loads and create a technical fact sheet according to the following scheme:
1. What does it look like?
- Description of its external appearance
- Photos (if possible)
- Dimensions and weight (if available)
2. What can it do?
- Main function(s) of the device
- Technical performance data
- Areas of application
3. How does it work?
- Basic operating principle (physical fundamentals)
- Different designs/types
- Special features
4. What does it look like inside?
- Main components and their function
- Structure (research it, do not dismantle it!)
- Materials
5. What role does it play in the company?
- Significance for production
- Economic significance
Submission
Deadline: 18 October 2025
Format: PDF document uploaded to ILIAS, max. 10 pages
Structure:
- Title page (title as above, name, student ID number, company, date of submission)
- Part A: Energy demand analysis (approx. 2–4 pages)
- Part B: Fact sheet (approx. 2–4 pages)
- List of sources
- Declaration of independent work (link in the ILIAS course)
Additional notes
- Respect trade secrets: anonymize sensitive data
- Safety: no unauthorized measurements on installations
- Sources: use rating plates, operating instructions and manufacturer information; ask your colleagues
- If you have problems: contact your training supervisor or me.
